summer is on its way

I don't know what it was about Monday morning, but the sky seemed more blue, the sun seemed brighter and even though it was still sweatshirt weather, I felt my first taste of summer bliss. We took a family walk to Lake Harriet and it dawned on me that if we are going to go anywhere this summer, we had better squeeze in our trips before the doctors say I can't go anywhere before delivering baby #2.

So I've been in summer road trip planning mode this week. They have to be short trips, they have to be fairly close to the cities and they have to be relatively inexpensive. Any suggestions? Favorite small towns? Favorite state parks? Favorite one or two night destinations?

Our family loves going to Osceola, Wisconsin to ride on the historic Osceola Railway http://mtmuseum.org/oscv.shtml. Osceola is a cute little town with some shops and a waterfall! The drive there is beautiful, along the St Croix River. There is also a great restaurant not too far from there with great food and amazing atmostphere right on the lake http://www.paradiselandingwi.com/.

Melanie! This is awesome to know. This sort of trip is exactly what we have in mind. Our goal is to fit a few different Midwest Tourist trips into our summer. We'll add Osceola to the list!

We love Two Harbors. We stay at Superior Shores Burlington lake homes! They have a lodge and the lake homes. Its right on the lake and its 7 miles from Gooseberry falls and Not far from Split Rock lighthouse.
If you go to Split Rock they do charge if you want to see the lighthouse up close otherwise you can do the park and walk for Free. thats what we do.

If you head up to Osceola, don't forget to take Ivar to Teddy Bear Park in Stillwater. He will LOVE it (and so will you!)

Buffalo River State Park, or Itasca.

If you are looking for something on the North Shore, I'd do like BlueFin Bay - they have a really good 'romantic' couple getaway that is reasonably priced.
