Inspiration for these the Hymn Cards came from working on the memory loss floor of a nursing home. I led the Sunday morning worship service for a group of men and women who often could not remember their own family. And yet, when we started singing What a Friend We have in Jesus, or spoke the words of the Lord's Prayer or the 23rd Psalm, new voices would join in, remembering every word. Those were powerful moments in worship, watching the songs of old calm anxious hearts, listening to incoherent setences turn to harmonious singing. I remember deciding then that I, too, wanted to know these promises so well that when my memory fails, my heart would still remember.

Because-- I've Been singing the same hymns to Anders for two years now and he can sing them all-- every verse. But... I am stuck in a rut... I need a hymnal to get some new ones. Then I remembered your Hymn card idea and read your post. You are spot on when speaking about how when your memory fails you, the Words will support you. All the songs I can remember thoroughly from childhood are the great hymns of our faith. (Or Broadway musicals!) The power of God speaks through the songs and our voices as we pass them on to the next generation. Listening to Anders sing the verses of Children of the Heavenly Father makes my heart melt and I know that Gods heart melts too.
