backyard camping

Rory left this invitation out for us last Thursday for some weekend camping in our backyard. It ended up being too chilly for us to actually camp outside, so we just set the tent up in the living room for play on Saturday. But then Sunday the weather warmed up enough so we could play outside. Truth be told, I'm not sure we were ever going to make it past bedtime out in the tent with a one and two year old...

The chickens were very curious and we loved watching them out every window as they clucked by. I enjoyed the view laying on my back the most. (any activity in mothering that lets me lay down for a bit seems to be a personal favorite...)

Last year Elsie was still inside of me for our backyard camping trip. She seemed pleased to be a part of the fun on the outside this year and we loved her addition of baby dolls into our tent.

I literally laughed out loud when I saw the first picture of Ivar peaking out the tent window at the chickens running around outside. I can honestly say that I've never seen any chickens or roosters in all of my years of camping, but 2-year old Ivar will think they're the norm. Love your camping "adventure"! You're one smart mama to let them play all day in the tent, and then bring them back inside for a restful night sleep for all parties involved. ;) Oh, & I absolutely love Rory's invite...such a good daddy and husband!

We're going camping in MI next weekend. I highly doubt we'll see any chickens, but I'm sure they'll be at least a couple of baby dolls in our tent, and quite possibly a few matchbox cars and "football guys" as Noah likes to refer to them. But probably not a whole lot of sleeping going on. I think that is to be expected, though, so at least I'm not entering into the trip with unrealistic expectations. :)
