my 32nd birthday

Well, it was going to be a hard birthday to beat. My 31st was epic...a picnic lunch at Lake Harriet. Perhaps my favorite birthday ever. So this year had quite the disadvantage from the start.

Knowing this, and also knowing that my birthday bar is crazy high to begin with, I was proactive and planned my day accordingly. So this morning we set out to go to the zoo. I thought a walk on the tropics trail with Rory, Ivar and Elsie would be perfect. But as we started driving it became quite obvious that today was not a good day to drive places you didn't have to go. We probably could have made it, but we didn't have to.

So instead we went to K-Mart to look at the sit and stand stroller I've had my eye on. And then we went to Menards to make a return. Then we went to the local hoagie shop for my free birthday sub, came home and put the kids to bed, I cancelled my plans for dinner with girlfriends due to the weather and Rory made pioneer woman's lasagna for supper.

Instead of cupcakes I decided to make caramel rolls, which perhaps sum up the day the best: for something that was supposed to be so awesome, something went terribly wrong.

Oh I love you Becca - did you take the rolls out too soon?? Happy birthday my sweet niece - you are one wonderful gal and we are looking forward to being with you at Mt Carmel Speaking of which I never got a bill from them - at least I don't think so - will try to call her again maybe.

Yes, Louie, I think I took the rolls out too soon. They just were getting so huge! They wouldn't stop growing, so I assumed the fact that they had grown eight times the frozen size I bought them, that they were done. But now I know. :)

Ahhh! Happy birthday! Sorry I forgot on the actual day. Yes, quite a difference from last year! Hard to believe tomorrow is the first official day of spring - a fact that is nonetheless true, despite the many inches of snow still on the ground, despite the below-zero wind chills, etc. I am hanging my hat onto this TRUTH, despite all the despites! :)

Oh my! Those cinnamon rolls cracked me up. I'm sorry, I know you were disappointed but someday you'll look back on this as the epic birthday fail and laugh. Maybe not today. :) How did they taste? Happy belated birthday, my friend!

All day Monday I kept thinking, "March 18th, March 18th. Why does that date ring a bell?" Then, at dinner Isabella looked at the calendar and said, "Mommy, it's Miss Becca's birthday today!" Yes, that's why March 18th rings a bell! Mystery solved. :) So...happy, happy birthday my dearest Becca! I'm so glad you enjoyed the day despite the downright frigid, blustery weather. I love how you always know how to make the most of your special day. Sending you lots of birthday hugs and love today!
